I am an anonymous international student studying in the Netherlands.

This website is not built to reveal my name, but to record numbers that are already visible and yet repeatedly normalised.

Dutch higher education speaks the language of internationalisation and diversity, but its tuition structure separates students into different price categories.

Some students pay the statutory fee. Others pay a much higher institutional fee for the same education.

This difference is not accidental. It is designed.

This website is a critical archive of that design.

나는 네덜란드에서 공부하는 익명의 외국학생이다.

이 웹은 내 이름을 드러내기 위해서가 아니라, 이미 너무 분명하지만 자주 흐려지는 숫자들을 기록하기 위해 만들어졌다.

네덜란드의 대학은 국제화와 다양성을 말하지만, 실제 등록금 구조는 학생들을 서로 다른 가격의 범주로 나눈다.

어떤 학생은 법정 등록금을 내고, 어떤 학생은 같은 교육에 훨씬 높은 기관 등록금을 낸다.

이 차이는 우연도, 예외도 아니다. 그것은 제도가 설계한 차이이며, 누가 배움에 더 비싼 값을 치러야 하는가를 결정하는 구조다.

This archive begins with the tuition problem in the Netherlands.

As an international student at Design Academy Eindhoven, I am witnessing firsthand how the same education is priced differently within the same country.

Dutch universities speak of internationalisation, diversity, and global connection, but the actual system classifies students into different cost tiers based on nationality, residency status, and financial background. For some, education functions like a publicly supported right. For others, it operates as a high-priced commodity at near full cost.

I see this difference not as a matter of individual choice or ability, but as a question of pricing designed by the system. Within the same studio, the same classroom, the same school — not everyone studies under the same conditions. The tuition gap is not a simple administrative classification; it is an economic boundary that determines who can access education and who must give up.

This website is not an information site that collects numbers. It is a critical archive that records how universities call international students with the language of hospitality while simultaneously categorising them as subjects of higher cost.

When we read tuition, scholarships, living expenses, visa proof, housing issues, discrimination reports, legal support, and internal counselling systems together, we can finally see the real cost of educational access.

The existence of support systems does not mean inequality does not exist. Counselling offices, scholarships, emergency funds, and legal support are important. But they are often retrospective supplements for overcoming barriers already set high — they do not remove the barriers themselves.

I want this website to treat international students not as revenue sources but as equal learning subjects. I want the internationalisation of universities to be read through pricing structures, not advertising copy.

I want to ask: why is the same education a public good for some and a more expensive product for others?

This archive exists to preserve that question. And to turn numbers back into testimony.

나는 디자인 아인트호벤에서 공부하는 외국학생으로서, 같은 나라 안에서 같은 교육이 어떻게 서로 다른 가격으로 책정되는지 직접 목격하고 있다.

네덜란드의 대학은 국제화, 다양성, 글로벌 연결을 말하지만, 실제 제도는 학생들을 국적, 체류 자격, 재정 배경에 따라 서로 다른 비용의 층위로 분류한다. 어떤 학생에게 교육은 공적 지원을 받는 권리처럼 작동하고, 어떤 학생에게 교육은 거의 전액 실비에 가까운 고가의 상품처럼 작동한다.

나는 이 차이를 개인의 선택이나 능력의 문제가 아니라, 제도가 설계한 가격의 문제로 본다. 같은 스튜디오, 같은 강의실, 같은 학교 안에서도 모두가 같은 조건으로 공부하는 것은 아니다. 등록금의 차이는 단순한 행정 분류가 아니라, 누가 접근할 수 있고 누가 포기해야 하는지를 가르는 경제적 경계다.

이 웹은 숫자를 모으는 정보 사이트가 아니다. 이 웹은 대학이 외국학생을 어떻게 환대의 언어로 부르면서도 동시에 더 높은 비용의 대상으로 분류하는지를 기록하는 비판적 아카이브다.

등록금, 장학금, 생활비, 비자 증빙, 주거 문제, 차별 신고, 법률 지원, 학교 내부의 상담 체계까지 함께 놓고 읽을 때, 우리는 비로소 교육 접근의 실제 비용을 볼 수 있다.

지원 제도가 존재한다는 사실은 불평등이 존재하지 않는다는 뜻이 아니다. 상담 창구, 장학금, 긴급기금, 법률 지원은 중요하다. 그러나 그것들은 종종 이미 높게 설정된 장벽을 넘기 위한 사후적 보완일 뿐, 장벽 자체를 없애지 않는다.

나는 이 웹에서 외국학생을 수익원이 아니라 동등한 학습 주체로 다루고 싶다. 나는 대학의 국제화가 광고 문구가 아니라 가격 구조로 읽히기를 바란다.

나는 묻고 싶다. 같은 교육이 왜 어떤 사람에게는 공공재이고, 어떤 사람에게는 더 비싼 상품이 되는가.

이 아카이브는 그 질문을 보존하기 위해 존재한다. 그리고 숫자를 다시, 증언으로 바꾸기 위해 존재한다.

정당화의 언어The Language of Justification

다음 문장들은 대학과 정부가 등록금 차이를 설명할 때 반복적으로 사용하는 언어다. 이 문장들을 그대로 모아 보여주면, 가격 차이가 어떻게 행정 언어로 중립화되는지 드러낼 수 있다.

The following sentences are language repeatedly used by universities and government when explaining tuition differences. Showing them together reveals how price gaps are neutralised through administrative language.

The existence of support organisations matters. But it does not erase the inequality of the tuition structure. Rather, this list shows that international students bear not only tuition but housing, discrimination, legal issues, mental burden, and safety concerns at once. This section is both a list of solutions and evidence of structure.
