스스로를 돌보라는 말, 더 나은 커리어를 위해 틈틈이 자신을 관리하라는 말. 플랫폼 자본주의는 이 말을 부드러운 조언처럼 반복해 왔지만, 실은 지친 몸과 흔들리는 감정, 잘게 쪼개진 시간을 개인이 알아서 감당하라는 명령이기도 하다. 이번 회차에서 옥이랑이 이어 받은 바통은 바로 이 문장을 잠시 멈춰 세우고, 책이라는 가장 느린 인터페이스를 통해 그 문법의 결을 다시 더듬어 보자는 제안이다.

Take care of yourself, manage your time to advance your career. Platform capitalism has long repeated these lines as gentle advice, but in reality, they function as commands—urging individuals to bear the weight of exhaustion, emotional instability, and fragmented hours on their own. The baton Oyirang receives in this edition pauses that sentence and traces its texture through the slowest interface we have: books.

Temporary Shared Hub 2nd edition으로 열린 이번 리딩룸과 카페는 한 권의 책 계약에서 시작되었다. 출판하기 버거울지도 모른다는 말을 들은 원고였지만, 오히려 이런 책이 세상에 나와야 한다는 생각이 프로젝트를 밀어 올렸다. 옥이랑은 6699프레스, 공윤지 등 서로 다른 결을 가진 두 작업자에게 책을 부탁했고, 플랫폼 자본주의의 언어, 학습과 관계, 도시의 무관심을 다루는 책들이 한 서가 위에 나란히 놓였다. 관람자는 서가 사이를 걸으며 앞선 독자의 서평 카드와 밑줄을 읽고, 그 옆에 자신의 질문과 문장을 덧붙인다. 이렇게 책은 개인의 소유에서 공용의 흔적으로 이동하고, 서가는 서로의 감각이 겹쳐지는 공유 서재가 된다.

This reading room and café, presented as the second edition of Temporary Shared Hub, began with a single book contract. The manuscript seemed difficult to publish, yet that difficulty became the reason to push it into the world. Oyirang invited two contributors of different sensibilities—6699 Press and artist Yunji Gong—and books dealing with platform capitalism, learning, relationships, and the quiet indifference of cities were placed side by side on the same shelf. Visitors move slowly between the shelves, reading previous readers’ cards and underlines and adding their own questions and sentences. In this movement, books shift from private belongings to shared traces, and the shelf becomes a collective library where sensibilities overlap.

이번 프로젝트의 중심에는 책 한 권을 맡기고 다른 이의 책을 훔쳐보듯 읽는 프로그램이 있다. 관람자는 자신이 아끼는 책을 공간에 남기고, 대신 누군가가 두고 간 책을 집어 든다. 책과 카드, 머무름과 반납이라는 단순한 동작을 통해 돌봄과 성과가 맺어 온 비가시적인 결속을 다시 그려 본다. 여기서 돌봄은 더 이상 개인의 자기관리와 동일한 말이 아니라, 성과가 요구해 온 조건에 맞서 서로에게 자리를 내어 주는 느린 실천이 된다. 작은 약속으로, 책을 맡기는 이에게는 음료 할인 혜택이 제공되고, 전시가 끝난 뒤 책은 다시 각자의 손으로 돌아간다.

At the center of this project is a program where each visitor leaves one book and reads another left by someone else. A person leaves a cherished book in the space and picks up a stranger’s book in return. Through these simple gestures—placing, reading, writing, returning—the invisible bond between care and performance is redrawn. Here, care is no longer a synonym for self-management but a slow practice of making space for one another against the pressures of performance. As a small gesture, visitors who leave a book receive a drink discount, and after the exhibition ends, all books are returned to their owners.

리딩룸과 함께 운영된 카페는 이 과정에 또 다른 호흡을 더한다. 옥이랑이 막연히 상상하던 칵테일 바는 김재연의 합류로 구체적인 메뉴와 리서치의 과정을 얻었다. 그는 책의 맥락과 공간의 분위기에 맞춰 세 가지 음료를 디자인하고, 시음과 인터뷰를 반복하며 메뉴를 다듬었다. 완두콩빛 공간을 허브 향으로 풀어낸 헙 모히또, 서울의 피로와 달콤함을 함께 담은 흑임자 막걸리 칵테일, 쑥 향이 은근하게 남는 진토닉은 모두 책과 사람, 공간의 서사를 한 잔 안에 기록하려는 시도였다. 사람들이 잔을 들고 책을 펼치는 동안, 공간은 하나의 문장처럼 이어졌다.

The café running alongside the reading room brought a new rhythm to the project. The vague idea of a cocktail bar that Oyirang initially imagined gained form when Jaeyeon Kim joined. He designed three drinks inspired by the books and the atmosphere of the space, revising them through repeated tastings and interviews. A herb-forward “Hup Mojito,” a sesame–makgeolli cocktail capturing the fatigue and sweetness of Seoul, and a mugwort-infused gin and tonic—each drink attempted to hold a narrative of books, people, and space within a single glass. As visitors held their drinks and opened books, the room moved like a single sentence.

Temporary Shared Hub는 이벤트가 아니라 과정으로 남기를 원한다. 이틀의 프로그램이 끝난 뒤에도 서가와 서평 카드는 한동안 그대로 공간에 머물며, 13권의 책과 그 위에 겹겹이 쌓인 손때를 보여 준다. 옥이랑에게 Hup은 글이 처음 몸을 가진 장소이자, 바통을 주고받는 사람들의 온도가 가장 또렷하게 드러나는 무대였다. 중요한 것은 바통이 누구 손에 잠시 머무느냐가 아니라, 다음 주자에게 무엇을, 어떤 속도로, 어떤 문장으로 건네는가이다. 이 프로젝트는 그 사이의 시간을 책장을 넘기는 속도만큼 느리게 만들고, 각자가 잃어버렸던 감각을 잠시 회복할 수 있는 자리를 마련해 보고자 한다.

Temporary Shared Hub wishes to remain not as an event but as a process. Even after the two-day program ended, the shelves and review cards stayed in the space, holding the traces of 13 books and the hands that passed through them. For Oyirang, Hup is where her writing first took physical form and where the warmth of passing the baton becomes most visible. What matters is not whose hand holds the baton briefly, but what is passed on, at what pace, and in what sentence. The project slows the time between those exchanges, hoping visitors might recover a small piece of their own sensory world in the pace of turning a page.
