이번 리딩룸과 카페는 Temporary Shared Hub의 두 번째 에디션으로, 한 권의 책 계약에서 출발했다. 출판하기 어려울 것이라는 말을 들은 원고였지만, 오히려 그렇기 때문에 세상에 나와야 한다는 생각이 프로젝트를 시작하게 만들었다. 그는 6699프레스와 공윤지에게 책을 제안했고, 플랫폼 자본주의의 언어, 학습과 관계, 도시의 무관심을 다루는 서로 다른 결의 책들이 한 서가 위에 놓였다. 관람자는 서가 사이를 걸으며 이전 독자의 서평 카드와 밑줄을 읽고, 그 옆에 자신의 질문과 문장을 덧붙인다. 이 과정을 통해 책은 개인의 소유에서 공동의 흔적으로 이동하고, 서가는 서로의 감각이 겹쳐지는 공유 서재가 된다.
This reading room and café, presented as the second edition of Temporary Shared Hub, began with a single book contract. The manuscript was considered difficult to publish, yet that difficulty became precisely the reason to bring it into the world. They invited 6699 Press and artist Yunji Gong to contribute books, and texts addressing platform capitalism, learning and relationships, and the quiet indifference of cities were placed together on a shared shelf. Visitors walk between the shelves, reading the review cards and underlines left by previous readers and adding their own questions and sentences beside them. Through this process, books shift from private possessions into shared traces, and the shelf becomes a collective library where different sensibilities overlap.
프로젝트의 중심에는 책 한 권을 맡기고 다른 사람의 책을 읽는 프로그램이 있다. 관람자는 자신이 아끼는 책을 공간에 남기고, 대신 누군가가 두고 간 책을 집어 든다. 책을 놓고, 읽고, 기록하고, 다시 돌려주는 단순한 동작을 통해 돌봄과 성과가 맺어 온 보이지 않는 관계를 다시 생각해 보게 된다. 여기서 돌봄은 더 이상 개인의 자기관리와 동일한 의미가 아니라, 성과 중심의 시간 속에서 서로에게 잠시 자리를 내어 주는 느린 실천이 된다. 책을 맡긴 관람자에게는 작은 약속처럼 음료 할인 혜택이 제공되며, 전시가 끝난 뒤 책은 다시 원래의 주인에게 돌아간다.
At the center of the project is a program in which each visitor leaves one book and reads another left by someone else. A visitor places a cherished book in the space and picks up a book that another person has left behind. Through the simple gestures of placing, reading, writing, and returning, the invisible relationship between care and performance is reconsidered. Here, care no longer refers to individual self-management but becomes a slow practice of making space for one another within a time structured by performance. As a small gesture, visitors who leave a book receive a drink discount, and after the exhibition ends the books are returned to their original owners.
리딩룸과 함께 운영된 카페는 이 과정에 또 다른 리듬을 더한다. 그가 막연하게 상상했던 칵테일 바는 김재연이 합류하면서 구체적인 메뉴와 리서치 과정을 갖추게 되었다. 그는 책의 맥락과 공간의 분위기에 맞춰 세 가지 음료를 디자인하고, 시음과 인터뷰를 반복하며 메뉴를 발전시켰다. 완두콩빛 공간을 허브 향으로 풀어낸 헙 모히또, 서울의 피로와 달콤함을 함께 담은 흑임자 막걸리 칵테일, 은은한 쑥 향이 남는 진토닉은 모두 책과 사람, 공간의 서사를 한 잔 안에 담으려는 시도였다. 사람들이 잔을 들고 책장을 넘기는 동안, 공간은 하나의 문장처럼 이어진다.
The café operating alongside the reading room adds another rhythm to the project. The cocktail bar they initially imagined took shape when Jaeyeon Kim joined the project and developed a menu through research and experimentation. He designed three drinks inspired by the context of the books and the atmosphere of the space, refining them through repeated tastings and interviews. A herb-forward Hup Mojito reflecting the pea-colored interior, a black-sesame makgeolli cocktail capturing both the fatigue and sweetness of Seoul, and a mugwort-infused gin and tonic each attempt to hold a narrative of books, people, and space within a single glass. As visitors hold their drinks and turn the pages of books, the space unfolds like a single sentence.
Temporary Shared Hub는 일회성 이벤트가 아니라 하나의 과정으로 남기를 바란다. 이틀 동안의 프로그램이 끝난 뒤에도 서가와 서평 카드는 잠시 공간에 머물며, 13권의 책과 그 위에 남은 손의 흔적을 보여 준다. 그에게 Hup은 글이 처음 공간 속에서 형태를 얻은 장소이자, 바통을 주고받는 사람들의 온도가 드러나는 장면이었다. 중요한 것은 바통이 누구의 손에 잠시 머무느냐가 아니라, 다음 사람에게 무엇을 어떤 속도로 건네는가이다. 이 프로젝트는 그 사이의 시간을 책장을 넘기는 속도만큼 천천히 만들며, 각자가 잃어버렸던 감각을 잠시 되찾을 수 있는 자리를 마련하고자 한다.
Temporary Shared Hub aims to remain not as a one-time event but as an ongoing process. Even after the two-day program ends, the shelves and review cards stay in the space for a while, holding the traces of thirteen books and the hands that have passed through them. For them, Hup became the place where writing first took spatial form and where the warmth of passing the baton became most visible. What matters is not whose hand holds the baton for a moment, but what is passed on, at what pace, and in what sentence. The project slows the time between these exchanges to the pace of turning a page, creating a moment where visitors may briefly recover a sensory awareness that everyday life often erodes.
